The Libri Foundation Collection: Thanks to a generous grant from the Libri Foundation that was 50% matched by the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation, we added 64 new books to the juvenile fiction and nonfiction collections. These books were chosen with a goal of attracting and retaining reluctant young male readers. While the Libri books have certainly had a positive impact on those patrons, other readers as well as parents have been using the collection heavily since it was added in October

In March, 2006, we purchased the entire contents of the Jose Castellanos and Col. Black Libraries at the Augusta Mental Health Institute. This was an exciting opportunity to expand the mystery, health, nonfiction and science fiction collections of the library at minimal cost. almost 1000 books from those collections have been added. If you browse the adult fiction area, you will see a new bookcase. All oversized books are on the left side. Science fiction and fantasy are on the right. We have already added considerable #s of titles to both collections. In addition, over 100 titles have been added to mysteries, cooking, health, history, science, gardening and poetry have also seen significant increases..

Thanks to the 5 for 5 program offered by Bonnie Dwyer, Central Maine Library District Consultant, we are adding between 20 and 30 new childrens titles each month. We alternate titles for our younger readers and titles for Young Adults each month. In addition, we have created separate juvenile and young adult unabridged audiobook collections. There are more than 50 juvenile titles and almost 200 young adult titles.

Since MAINECAT has more than three and a half million items, your new virtual library is very big.
